PHILOSOPHY:
The philosophy of the intervention process is based on the fact that alcoholism and drug addiction has a disease base, that the disease affects the chemically dependent person, family members and family systems both emotionally and behaviorally, and that all other people involved in the intervention process will benefit from the education and knowledge that is offered as part of the process. Intervention is a process, not an event.
INTERVENTION PROVIDES:
a) an educational process that establishes a common base of information for the family.
b) a low threat method of identifying chemical dependency.
c) a low threat method of allowing family members to understand their role in the destructiveness of the disease.
INTERVENTION GOAL:
1. Define for yourself and all those present, what you are
going to do for yourself, whether the person being intervened on gets help or not.
2. To present to the chemically dependent person, data about his/her chemical use in a caring and concerned manner in order to motive that person to obtain professional help.
PHILOSOPHY OF
THE FAMILY INTERVENTION NETWORK OF NCADD
1. Alcoholism and Drug Addiction is a family disease. Empowering the
family takes place starting with the first call. Once positive change
commences it will continue and the system has an opportunity to get well.
2. Individuals and families suffering from the effects of the disease
of addiction are dignified human beings who are covered up by the disease. Intervention is about reaching for that dignity with feelings of care and concern.
